Membership is for students in the eighth grade. Eligibility is determined by the student's seventh grade behavior and grades. In order to be eligible, a student must have a cumulative average of 85% or higher in all classes. During their 7th grade year, students may not have received more than one classroom notice or a single administrative notice.
Students who meet the minimum grade and behavior requirements will be notified of their eligibility during the summer before their 8th grade year. Those students must then submit a detailed essay following the guidelines contained in their eligibility letter. Students who do not submit a well-crafted and complete essay will not be extended a membership into NJHS. The essay is due on August 4th via email to the NJHS sponsor, Mrs. Waterman. An email and letter will notify the candidates and their families if they are invited to become members of the National Junior Honor Society.
Continued membership is contingent upon the student maintaining an 85% each quarter in each class and by adhering to the above behavioral requirements. Members will be placed on probation if they receive a classroom notice. Members who receive a second classroom notice or a single administrative notice will be dismissed from the program immediately. Members will be required to complete 10 student leadership hour commitments sponsored by the Assumption National Junior Honor Society, as well as an individual service project. Membership in the National Junior Honor Society comes with a commitment to excellence. Behavioral issues within NJHS are not in line with our core values of SCHOLARSHIP, SERVICE, LEADERSHIP, CHARACTER, and CITIZENSHIP.
